Taz Taylor racing finishes top of the podium at Oulton Park!

The weather was fair, but that was no reflection on the Taz Taylor racing performance at the HEL Performance British Motostar Race this weekend

17-year-old Taz of Taz Taylor racing, a Mansfield local, has been working his tyres hard in his debut season racing for the RS Racing KTM team in the HEL Performance British Motostar races. No stranger to the podium, Taz has consistently placed in the top three since the first showdown at Donington Park last month and this weekend was no different as he placed in a well-deserved first place in the second race of the weekend! You might say third time lucky, but superstitious or not, a fierce 4.5 second lead over the finish line can’t be down to anything but gritty determination and skilful talent!

The weekend began with Saturday’s practice where the riders took to the track in less favourable weather conditions and started preparing for the big race. Warmed up, Sunday saw Taz Taylor racing to first place in the first qualifying sessions with a 1.3 second lead, followed by a 0.6 second-led pole position ahead of Ed Rendell in the subsequent session.

When Monday came around Taz blew the other contestants out of the possibility of a win as he remained confidently in front for the whole fourteen laps. Around lap nine Taz was a sublime 7.3 seconds ahead of the pack, and although he lost a few of these by the end, a 4.5 second finish ahead of Ed Rendell was still a lead to be extremely proud of.

Following the race Taz was confident but modest, playing down his incredible achievement, “I have been at the same fast pace all weekend and it paid off in the race. I didn’t want to bin the bike but I just wanted to chill out and finish the race.”

Taz’s domineering performance has raised the bar for the coming races, not just through his excellent race performance, but with setting a lap record of 1.45.345 seconds – The Taylors must be extremely proud!

Taz was racing in the Motul Motostar British Championship back in 2014 and when the results were in, and all the races had been raced, his name was second down on the standings. That was an incredible achievement, but if he’s starting as he means to go on, what do you think – can he trump it this season? We would say fingers crossed, but we’re not sure we believe in winners luck, just winners!
