The GT Air is Shoei's premium sports touring helmet, designed and refined for optimum performance, comfort and enjoyment. It is intercom-ready, and is also the first helmet designed by Shoei to include an internal drop-down sun visor. Whilst some may consider Shoei to be "behind" in this respect (sun visors have, after all, been around for years), in reality they have been taking their time to thoughtfully design a sun visor which, unlike many other sun visor designs, does not compromise the frontal impact protection of the helmet. The sun visor is easily replaceable and can be operated with gloves.
The outer shell of the GT Air is incredibly strong yet very lightweight, made up of Shoei's specially-developed AIM organic and multi-composite fibre matrix. With three shell sizes to cater for the full range of head sizes, you can be assured of the same level of protection, whatever size helmet you wear. The multi-density EPS liner also provides a high level of shock absorption.
The GT Air also benefits from Shoei's innovative emergency cheek pad release system. The cheek pads can be removed by the emergency services quickly and easily in the event of an accident, using a pull tab located at the bottom of the helmet. The quick release chin pads enable the emergency services to remove the helmet without causing unnecessary strain to the rider's neck. This could make a critical difference in the event of an accident.
The GT Air has decent aerodynamics honed for a sports touring style of riding, rather than being designed specifically for the track. An integrated spoiler adds stability at higher speeds. With air intake and exit vents flush-fitted into the helmet there is very little added turbulence, guaranteeing a smooth ride.
Shoei have kept the rider's comfort at the heart of the GT Air design, with extensive ventilation to keep the rider cool. The air channels make use of a Venturi style system of air flow, which actively pulls cool air into the helmet. With four inlet vents (each with an open/close function) and six exhaust vents reaching from the spoiler right down to the nape of the neck, this creates a cooling effect across the full length of the helmet. Another important comfort feature is the interior lining, which is plush and 3D contoured for a soft and close-fitting interior. The interior is fully removable and washable, for longer-lasting freshness.
Shoei have adopted a stainless steel micro ratchet fastening for the GT Air, which ensures long-term reliability. Unlike a plastic ratchet system, which can deteriorate over time, the stainless steel ratchet will never wear out.
