The best in motorcycle communications systems, the Sena 50R is part of the Sena 50 Series that aims to elevate the standards of motorcycle intercoms even further. With greater battery life, faster charging, digital assistant access and more, the Sena 50R takes care of everything else so that you can focus on riding.
As with many motorcycle intercom systems, the Sena 50R utilises Bluetooth connectivity for connecting to Bluetooth compatible devices such as your smartphone. The new Sena 50R utilises the latest Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, which helps create a stronger connection between your new Sena 50R system and your Bluetooth compatible devices such as your smartphone or GPS device. Thanks to Bluetooth 5.0’s strong connections, the clarity of conversation between you and your riding partner is much clearer, with perfectly balanced audio at all times coming through the upgraded speakers. These speakers are provided by Harmon Kardon, legends in the field of audio quality and are optimised for powerful performance with a new bevelled taper design for improved comfort.
The Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity can also be used to pair with compatible motorcycle intercoms which use Bluetooth as their means of connection, giving you and three other riders the ability to talk to one another with ease over a 1.2 range. However, the party piece of the Sena 50R is the new Mesh functionality. This exciting connection is described as ‘self-healing’, adapting to suit the needs of the riders and helping to solve some issues that have plagued Bluetooth communication units. The beauty of Adaptive Mesh Networking means that each rider is continuously linked to one another, rather than in the chain-like fashion of Bluetooth systems. The benefit of this is that if one rider leaves the group, the communication between the other riders within the group isn’t broken as is the case with some Bluetooth connections.
What’s more, if the rider who left the party re-joins later down the line, the Adaptive Mesh technology automatically reconnects them back into the party without having to stop and reconnect the devices. Plus, the Mesh functionality is always changing to improve connectivity to help optimise the strength of the connection for the clearest conversations.
The Adaptive Mesh feature also allows for selective group settings. You can connect with a virtually limitless amount of Sena 50R users in the Open Mesh function, or a condensed 24 riders in the group mesh function. Plus, if you’re riding in a pack of six or more, the Sena 50R system’s connection distance increases to 5 miles in optimal terrain.
Sena’s Advanced Noise Control feature automatically changes the volume of the audio you are experiencing in line with ambient noise outside of the helmet. This useful feature ensures that you don’t need to turn the music up while riding at speed or turn it down when sat at traffic lights as the Advanced Noise Control feature will take care of this automatically, adjusting the volume as you ride.
This Sena communication system includes their Audio Multitasking feature, which allows for multiple audio files to be working in unison with one another. This allows you to be using your new Sena comm system to listen to music while receiving navigational instruction from your smartphone as well as communicating with your riding partners all at the same time! There is also the inclusion of an FM radio with the Sena 50R, allowing you to tune in to local radio station when out on your travels to receive local traffic updates, news and more. This Sena comm system has a 10 pre-set station memory, allowing you to save your favourite FM radio stations and choose between them with ease.
Operating the Sena 50R is easy, thanks to a simple three-button system found on the side of your new Sena intercom system. The three buttons can be pressed singularly or in combinations, and can be used for navigating your new Sena motorcycle intercom, from cycling through your speed dial to adjusting the volume of the music or GPS instructions. Alternatively, remote control units can be purchased separately that attach easily to your motorcycle handlebars, allowing you to control the system without needing to use the system itself.
Of course, you needn’t even take your hands off the handlebars, thanks to the inclusion of the new Voice Command functionality included with the 50R. If remembering the different combinations of button presses is proving difficult, the voice command capability can take care of many of the functions of your new Sena 50R without ever having to take your hands off the handlebars. Plus, the Sena 50R system supports voice commands in multiple languages including English, French German, Italian and more! As an advanced feature in the new Sena 50 series, this motorcycle helmet intercom will connect directly to your digital assistant, allowing you easily operate your smartphone with a simple call of ‘Hey Siri’ or ‘Hey Google’, letting your smartphone take care of the hard work while you listen to crystal clear audio. All Sena intercom systems can be controlled via the Sena app for your smartphone, which allows you to shuffle riders, set music stations, make calls and more, all from your smartphone.
With an operating temperature of between -10°C and 55°C and a talk time of up to 14 hours, the Sena 50R intercom system is ready to tackle the roads in both summer and winter. The batteries used in the new Sena 50 series intercoms is a high-density battery that charges 30% faster than its predecessors. The Sena 50R headset is fully charged after only an hour, offering a complete day’s riding with a small-time charging. If you need to give your Sena a boost, the fast charging feature can offer 3.5 hours of mesh communication or 6 hours of Bluetooth usage with just a 20-minute charge. The charging cable also features a WiFi adapter, which can be programmed to automatically install any available firmware upgrades via a wireless network while your headset is charging.
If you require additional support with your Sena 50R system, please read the Quick Start Guide and complete User Guide which explain pairing with devices, how to activate and use each of the features, how to fit the system and more.
