The RST Pro Series Adventure jackets have become legendary amongst touring and adventure bikers everywhere, perfectly balancing price and performance to deliver one of the best textile motorcycle jackets available. From huge ventilation points to CE armour, the RST Adventure Jacket is everything you need a textile motorbike jacket to be and more!
Now in it’s latest incarnation, the RST Pro Series Adventure X jacket has been designed with input from legendary Dakar Rally hero Mick Extance, who’s been covering miles and miles in RST Pro Series Adventure gear for years. If there’s anyone who knows what it take to make one of the best adventure motorcycle jackets on the market, it’s Mick Extance!
For the first time, RST and In&Motion have partnered to combine one of the most dominant names in airbag technology with the performance of a leather motorcycle race suit. In&Motion are well known in the field of airbag technology, developing airbag vests for skiing, equestrian and motorcycle purposes, usually in the form of an airbag vest, worn on the exterior of existing clothing or as a vest worn underneath. However, with the RST Adventure-X Airbag Textile Jacket, the airbag technology is fitted directly into the jacket, inflating to cover the back and chest, maximising your safety should the worst occur. The benefit to fixing the airbag directly into the jacket ensures that the protection is in the right place at the right time, as well as RST’s development and quality assurance ensuring that the garments which the airbags are fitted to can withstand the additional strain and pressure of an airbag within, something some motorcycle garments would fail at.
Since the airbag system is already fitted to the suit, there’s no issues or hassle of fitting the airbag system into the suit. Fitting the In&Box into your RST airbag suit is easy, with a dedicated cut-out within the supplied CE approved back protector; simply plug in and put on and you’re ready for the racetrack. All new RST airbag products are supplied without the In&Motion In&Box as standard; once you have purchased your new RST airbag clothing, you will need to head to the In&Motion website and complete the associated forms. After this, In&Motion will personally ship a brand new In&Box to your designated address that is ready to go with your selected preferences and updated with the latest firmware.
A subscription service is required to ensure that you remain protected, which can be completed at the In&Motion website and can be paid either monthly or annually, whichever you prefer. This subscription offers continuous optimisation with the latest algorithms and updates to ensure that the protection you are receiving is nothing but the best. When registering the In&Box with In&Motion, you are given the choice to activate the Track Option at an additional cost; the airbag algorithms within the In&Box are different between road usage and race circuits and requires changing depending on how you are using the suit*.
The subscription also grants full access to the My In&Box app, which available on both the iOS and Android app stores. This application allows you to monitor the battery levels within the In&Box, ensure that the In&Box is properly connected, check whether there are any updates to the existing airbag software and more. The subscription also offers an unlimited guarantee**, giving you peace of mind that you’re investing in a quality piece of technology. Plus, thanks to the VIP service included with the subscription, if your In&Box does encounter any issues, you’ll be shipped a new In&Box from In&Motion straight away, even if you haven’t returned yours yet!*** The shaping of the box means that the In&Motion box can be used across the whole RST airbag range, meaning that you don’t have to purchase additional boxes and subscriptions. Head out on your adventure bike in the new RST Adventure-X Airbag Textile Jacket one weekend, remove the In&Box and attach it to your new RST GT Airbag Leather Jacket and jump on board your sports bike next weekend with ease.
The airbag leather jacket can withstand multiple detonations of the airbag vest within, however in your best interests, RST recommend that the jacket be returned after three detonations so that the jacket can be checked by RST. This inspection service is carried out free of charge by RST as part of their commitment to keeping you safe. Each detonation uses a pressurised canister to expand the airbag and keep you safe, which will need to be replaced after the detonation and are available to purchase separately. Once the airbag has been deployed, the garment will remain fully inflated for ten seconds before slightly deflating to 80% capacity, ensuring you remain protected when laid on the ground but subsiding enough for you to take the garment off. In order to fully deflate the airbag jacket, simply release the canister from the jacket; this will activate a release valve within the airbag mechanism, slowly deflating the garment.
The outer constructions of the new RST Adventure Jacket consists of two different textile materials, bringing the best of both worlds to the RST Adventure X Jacket. The first is a MaxTex textile material, a high denier synthetic material that offers great protection with a comfortable, flexible fit. The second material is Ballistic textile, chosen to overlay the MaxTex at key areas. The Ballistic textile is densely woven using very fine fabrics that offer increased resistance to abrasion tears and such. In addition to using such hardwearing materials, the RST Adventure X Jacket is triple stitched in key areas with a coated, bonded nylon thread. The combination of these two textile materials ensures unrestricted movement in a lightweight construction with peace of mind that the jacket is capable of withstanding anything you can throw at it.
Hidden beneath the outer construction of the jacket lies CE approved armour, strategically placed to offer maximum protection in the event of an accident or a tumble from your motorcycle when tackling trickier terrain. In the RST Adventure X jacket, the armour is CE approved to Level 2 and is found at the back, elbows and shoulders as standard, dissipating the impact energy and protecting the bones, tissue and organs beneath. The armour itself is constructed from a bio-elastane memory foam, maximising the comfort aspect of the jacket by remaining unintrusive to fit and feel which maximising the protection. Further to the CE armour, TPU shoulder cups are found on the RST Adventure X jacket, the same shared with different jackets in RST’s sportier styled leather jackets, offering further impact and abrasion resistance from the exterior of the jacket too.
Within the RST Adventure Jacket, you’ll find a fixed mesh lining, separating the rider from the textile outer construction of the jacket and creating a pleasant environment in which to spend the day. The inclusion of the mesh lining also aids in taking the jacket on and off, particularly in warmer climates where things tend to get a little stickier. Rather than opt for individual liners, the RST Adventure X Jacket features the new RST X-Liner, an inner lining which combines both the quilted thermal liner and the SinAqua waterproof membrane as one singular liner. This limits the hassle of removing multiple different linings within the jacket and significantly reduces the weight of the garment overall.
Ventilation is important in any motorcycle jacket, none more so than adventure textile jackets like the RST Pro Series Adventure Jackets. New to the RST Adventure X Jacket, perforated panel ventilation can be found at the very upper chest, directing cool air flow into the jacket and keeping you cool as you ride. Like with previous incarnations of the RST Adventure Jacket, the Adventure X Jacket features large ventilation panelling to further increase the cool air flow into the jacket. Two large front chest panels can be unzipped and tucked away inside the jacket, revealing large block-mesh panels, driving masses of air into the jacket, a welcome feature when riding in warmer climates. In addition to the large mesh ventilation panels, two zipped ventilation openings at the upper shoulders as well as a huge zipped opening at the arms as well as a rear exhaust ventilation point, allowing the warmer, stale air to efficiently exit the jacket.
A hardwearing jacket requires a hardwearing closure system, which is why RST choose to use MAX zippers in their textile motorcycle jackets. These zippers can be found at the central zipper, zipped ventilation openings and the zipped waist adjustment gusset which allows for additional expansion at the waist areas to adjust fit and increase comfort if necessary. You’ll also find a 360° connection zipper at the inner bottom of the jacket, allowing you to zip the RST Adventure X Jacket into any compatible RST motorcycle trouser. For the best result, we recommend zipping into the RST Adventure X Trouser for the ultimate adventure motorcycle outfit. Adjustment points come in the form of the endless strap adjustment at the waist of the jacket and press popper adjustments at the arm, allowing the rider to adjust the fit and feel of the RST Adventure X Jacket and stopping the jacket billowing at speed when riding.
Storage opportunities on the RST Pro Series Adventure X Jacket come in the form of two large outer box pockets with roll tops to limit water entry into the box should you find yourself out in the worst of the weather. You’ll also find internal storage pockets too for securing your valuables when riding. Additionally, the RST Adventure X jacket comes complete with a rear map pocket, a large pocket designed to accommodate the storage of large documents such as maps, border information and more. Plus, the map pocket can be removed from the jacket for use as a waist bag, letting you take the important documents with you when on the move.
New to the latest RST Adventure Jacket, a carry handle found at the rear of the jacket allows you to easily carry your jacket when off the bike, making life easier when you arrive at your destination. Stretch panelling at the elbow allows for an unrestricted range of movement whether you’re off the bike or on it. Available with colour matched trousers for the ultimate textile touring two-piece outfit!
