If not, how about hitching a lift? Ride to Work Week is a nationwide event. It aims to promote the benefits of using two wheels as a positive way to commute.

Ride to Work Week Commuter Photo Telegraph It can also make you happier – “Motorcyclists are among the happiest commuters according to a one off survey by the Office for National Statistics. It revealed that riding a motorcycle, moped or scooter had no negative impact on well-being on commutes up to 30 minutes and after that it was negligible. This was in contrast to those who walked, cycled, took the bus or drove, who all experienced a dip in well-being after just 15 minutes.”*

The industry believes in this as a positive cause. As does our recommended insurance company, Bikesure. Our article How to Find Cheap Motorcycle Insurance provides some insurance details.

What’s the reason behind Ride to Work Motorbike Week?

This week began to raise awareness for two wheels on the road. Many riders aren’t commuters and this lets non-commuters experience the immediate benefits. These include weaving between traffic, enjoying reduced travel costs and saving time. It also has a wider purpose; improving the status and credibility of bikes on British roads. Policymakers often discredit motorbikes as a favourable method of transport. This week provides an opportunity to boost motorcyclists’ reputation.

There are also other convincing reasons to stick with a longer term two wheel commute. Check them out on the Why Should I Ride? Page from Ride to Work Week’s official website.

Interested in switching to two wheels for commuting?

This week is all about encouraging people to use their bikes to commute, whether you’re an experienced rider or complete newbie. If you’re one of the newbies please have a read about our training school…

CBT Two Wheel Centre TrainingOur Training School has taught many new riders how to use their first set of two wheels. It doesn’t take much of a time nor financial commitment. The first training riders need to undertake is a CBT. The CBT is a day long course, costing £115. This teaches you basic skills – everything you need to get you legally and safely on a scooter. The engine size you can then ride is 50cc if you’re 16 years old and 125cc if you’re 17 years or older. Then there are the bigger boys. A direct access can take you up to a 47bhp bike if you’re 19 – 23. It allows you to ride any size bike at 24 years and over. More information is available on our Two Wheel Motorcycle Training webpage and the school’s chief instructors; Darren or Judith are available on 07980 313544 to book in or for a chat.

Already a commuter and want to brush up on your skills?

Once you’ve passed your test Bikesafe want to ensure you aren’t letting your skills drop and offer post-licence training with police officers. This is in hopes of reducing the number of accidents on British roads.
