Gerbing Heated Clothing FAQs, and answers

  • Can I wear Gerbing clothing in rainy, wet weather? Yes! The electrical wiring that snakes through Gerbing clothing is covered with carbon fibre which protects it from water, therefore if you’re out on a soggy day you’ll be safe. Beyond safety, will you stay dry? Each product states whether there is a waterproof lining fitted. In a Gerbing heated shell, the jacket liner is water-repellant whereas the gloves made with textile have a Hipora® waterproof liner or the leather can be waterproof treated.

  • Am I protected if something goes wrong? Is there a warranty? Yes, Gerbing set up a warranty for different aspects of the clothing, though most importantly the heating elements are covered for a lifetime. Please register your Gerbing Clothing or Accessories within 60 days and see the bottom of the page* for more details, this is included in all products too, find it under the ‘Gerbing Warranty’ tab.
  • Are all Gerbing products suitable for motorcycle use? Unfortunately not. Most of them are suitable for motorcycling or other cold weather activities such as horse riding or walking, but a few special products aren’t. Generally all of the 7V products aren’t recommended as the motorbike doesn’t exert enough power to charge them up. The Gerbing T1 Textile Gloves aren’t fitted with crash protection and are another option more suited for other outdoor pursuits.
  • When can I use the dual temperature controller? If you’re wearing a Gerbing Heated Jacket Liner or a Gerbing Heated Vest (12V) and gloves you can plug each cord into this and alter the temperature for each separately. You can also wear it in the rain as it’s waterproof! Please note: if you’ll be wearing the vest and gloves together you need a y harness to connect them.

  • Can two riders use the dual temperature controller at the same time? Gerbing have designed these for one rider and recommend it’s only safe to power one user at a time.
  • Is it safe to wear the Gerbing Heated Jacket Liner alone? For warmth, yes. For protection, not so much. It depends on what you’re wearing it for. It doesn’t contain any armour so undertaking a pursuit such as motorcycling where there’s a possibilty you might fall off, Gerbing recommend wearing a protective jacket over the top.
  • How about the other Gerbing clothing items? It’s best to wear a liner underneath, whether it’s trousers, a cotton t-shirt, glove liners. This provides a protective layer between your skin and the clothing which prevents the natural oils or moisture from your skin soaking into the Gerbing product. It also provides you with a barrier if the heat becomes a bit overwhelming.
  • Do all Gerbing products work remotely with a battery pack? Unfortunately not all of them do. Many have this capability but please read each individual listing for the information. For example, the Gerbing XR-12 Heated Gloves can run using portable batteries whereas the shorter Gerbing XRS-12 Heated Gloves can only run from bike power.
  • Are there replacement 7V Batteries? Yes, you can buy a single 7V Lithium battery from our website as an extra or replacement for the ones provided with Gerbing 7V products.
  • Is the bike powerful enough to handle the electrical usage? Add up how many watts your electrical clothing will use and consult your owner’s manual for the available wattage of your system.
  • Can I wash the Gerbing Jacket liner, pants or socks? Yes you can hand wash them with laundry detergent then let them hang dry.
  • Can I roll up my Gerbing garments and pack them away for a tour or adventure? Yes you can roll them tightly, compactly and throw them into a bag or the seat of your bike until you need them.
