What is the difference between the SV-2, LV and MLV Vests?
Essentially, there is no difference other than sizing. The SV-2 Vest offers the smallest size range, followed by the LV Vest, offering the mid-range, and finishing with the MLV Vest for larger sizes. The MLV vest does have larger air bags to accommodate for the requirements of a larger rider.
So, how does it work?
The jacket has a tubular airbag strategically placed to cover all major impact zones or vulnerable areas of the torso. The gas canisters are 60cc, and are activated to inflate the jacket by a cord pull.
This cord is attached to the bike at an adjustable length depending on the horse/rider. Upon impact, as the rider leaves the horse/motorcycle, the cord is pulled and the jacket inflates in 0.25 seconds.
Can it be pulled accidentally, or by someone else on purpose?
The gas canister is only triggered when the cord has been pulled by a force of approximately 35kg. That is the equivalent of a 4.5 stone child hanging from the cord. So, in answer, the cord can be pulled unintentionally, but you will probably notice and stop the inflation before it actually happens.
And what about spare parts?
Yes, replacement cords and canisters are available at a small extra charge. If inflated but not damaged beyond use, the jacket can be de-flated and re-used as normal.
